The Best Of Bilston Awards 2019

A chance to say a huge well done and thank you to the people who make Bilston a better place

HeadStart is delighted to be a sponsor of The Best of Bilston Awards 2019. The awards celebrate the people of all ages who make Bilston a better place, and this year’s ceremony is being organised by the community members of the HeadStart Wolverhampton Steering Group.

The awards event will be helping to raise funds and awareness for CRYWolves, working to reduce sudden cardiac death in young people, in association with Chelsea Rist,
 Miss Landscape 
England 2018/19.

Closing date for nominations: 14th February 2019

Nominations are welcome for one of 16 Awards, with award categories recognising both community members and young people (aged 10-16) who live, work, or are actively involved in the Bilston area.

How do I nominate someone?

First, carefully read over the criteria for each of the awards at the bottom of the page before nominating someone!

Then … either

    Then email it Manjit Cheema at manjit.cheema2@wolverhampton.gov.uk or drop it off to the Strengthening Families Hub, Bilston Market Hub, 25a Market Way, Bilston, WV14 0DR.

The Best of Bilston Awards Evening will take place on Thursday 14th March 2019 at Ormiston SWB Academy, Dudley St, Bilston WV14 0LN.

Category criteria - please read carefully before nominating

Community Awards

One in a Million – Supporting Young People Award

This award will recognise an individual who inspires young people to do their best but is also there to offer support & guidance. This could be a teacher or a member of the support staff.

Community Champion Award

This award is for an individual or group who have advocated on behalf of local residents resulting in problems being solved in the area or better services being provided.

Good Neighbour Award

This award will recognise and honour residents who go the extra mileto enrich their community with exemplary acts of care and neighbourliness.

Volunteer Award

This award recognises the efforts of a person or a group who have given their time voluntarily for the benefit of others. The nominee could also be recognised for working hard raising funds for charity or community groups

Overcoming Adversity Award

This award will recognise a person that has overcome a personal challenge that they may have found difficult and act as an inspiration for others.

Carer Award

This award is to recognise a person that has dedicated themselves to selflessly caring for someone who could be a family member, friend or someone from the local community.

SOS Award

This award is for a person or a group of people who have helped the emergency services (Police, Fire, or Ambulance) to save lives, fire prevention or making Bilston a safer place to live.

Community Business Award

This award is for a local business that has contributed to the local community of Bilston by putting something back into the local area.

Community Group of the Year Award

This award is to recognise an inspirational community group that has made a positive impact on a community and/or people's lives through on-going, day-to-day activity.

Young Person Awards (10-16yo)

Inspirational Young Person Award

This award will recognise a young person who is looked up to by others as an inspiration and has made a positive contribution to the lives of others.

Most Dedicated Student

This award will recognise a young person for their outstanding dedication to academic study and also involved in their school by assisting staff and pupils at the school or by helping with an after-school or weekend club.

Young Volunteer Award

This award will recognise a young person who has undertaken unpaid work for the benefit of the community and excelled.

Young Voice Award

This award is for a young person with a powerful voice who has changed something at school or in the community that has been a benefit to others.

Young Carer Award

This award will recognise a young person who has demonstrated responsibility and excellence as a young carer.

Gifted & Talented Award

This award is for an individual or a group of young people who have shown their natural talents excelling in sports, acting, singing, drawing, dance, writing, music etc.

Young Achiever Award

This award is to recognise someone who normally finds it hard to do things but has achieved something in their school or local community overcoming barriers in difficult circumstances.
